With the current soaring prices of commodities coupled with crude oil price hitting USD134 per barrel, not only us (South East Asia) being hit badly, America also couldn't escape the fate.
America's poor has been struggling by getting aid from the largest charitable hunger-relief organisation of America - America's Second Harvest. The network of so-called "food banks" reported last month that the number of people it is helping has increased 15 to 20 per cent on average over the past year.
According to Maryland Food Bank, more than half a million state residents live at or below the federal poverty level, and the fastest growing segment of need is among those in full-time employment.
Ms Flateman said: "People who are coming to food shelves these days are not just poverty level people. They are people who are working, but because of the high cost of living, they are finding it difficult to put food on their tables."
